Main service panel inspection
Check for proper labelling, corrosion, signs of overheating and loose connections. Use an infrared camera if possible.
-
Break function test
Ensure breakers trip/reset properly, test GFCI and AFCI breakers. Use an infrared camera if possible.
-
Aluminum wiring check
Identify the presence of aluminum branch circuits at the panel. Recommend copper pig tails if aluminum is present.
-
Conductor ampacity verification
Ensure wires are appropriately sized for connected loads and breaker ratings. Look for undersized conductors.
-
Grounding and bonding
Verify the service is grounded correctly, water pipe bonding and main bonding jumpers are intact.
-
General wiring check
Review wiring to ensure all cables are to code, are strapped and entered into boxes properly. Advise if any wiring looks unsafe or not to code.

Dimming assessment
Review areas that may require dimming and recommend adding dimmers where applicable.
-
Smoke and CO detectors
Test operation and ensure all smoke detectors are up to code. There should be one on each level and one in each bedroom.
-
Appliance circuit loads
Verify proper breaker sizing and dedicated circuits for appliances.
-
HVAC and mechanical equipment
Verify all HVAC and mechanical equipment connections are sound. Check water pumps and heat pumps. Check to see if the client has air conditioning and if not if they are interested.
-
Bathroom fan and kitchen hood wiring
Check for correct function and safe terminations.
-
GFCI protection
Test all GFCIs in kitchens, bathrooms, garages and exterior locations. Check to see if any areas require GFCI protection.
-
Surge protection evaluation
Check for whole-home surge protection or recommend installation, especially in areas with sensitive electronics.
-
Exterior service and meter base
Visual inspection for signs of rust, damage, or unsafe connections. Check drop loops, clevis strain relief and wear at mastheads. Ensure service is properly secured and strapped.
-
Exterior outlets and exterior circuits
Inspect covers, GFCI function and in-use bubble covers. If a client has a hot tub, pool or sauna, review and inspect wiring.
-
EV charger inspection
Check installed EV system or recommend a 240 volt circuit for future use.
-
Smart Device Integration
Discuss adding smart device integration with clients. We are certified in RadioRA3 and are able to add keypads or functionality from phones or tablets.
-
Backup power systems
Discuss adding a backup generator to protect the client's electrical system from power failures.
