Happy Labour Day!

To most of us Labour Day signals the end of summer, but did you know it began in Toronto in 1872 with a massive working class demonstration seeking a 9 hour workday? How far we have come since then! We wish all a safe and happy long weekend, especially the awesome crew here at Wicks Electric, who work so hard everyday to provide the best electrical services anywhere! No matter where you find yourself this Labour Day, take a minute to think about Canada’s labour pioneers. Their actions laid the foundations for the rights and benefits enjoyed today.

GVHBA Members Wicks Electric

Mark: Hi, it’s Mark Bossert here with Adam Wicks from Wick Electric in Vancouver, they’re the highest rated electricians in Vancouver and as well, Adam has been awarded Top 30 Under 30 by BC Business Magazine. They were also selected by Tesla as their premier installer for Tesla Powerwalls in Vancouver. How’re you doing today Adam?

Adam: I’m doing well Mark, thanks for the introduction.

Mark: So we’re going to talk about the GVHBA, Greater Vancouver Home Builders Association and RenoMark which is something that’s pretty rare in the electrical industry, is that right?

Adam: Yeah, that’s correct Mark. So the GVHBA is the Greater Vancouver Home Builders Association; so that’s a group that you have to apply to be a part of. There’s hundreds of builders, you’ll find Vancouver’s premier, high end builders as part of the GVH, but there are only a few sub-trades, probably because the cost of membership is pretty high and you don’t get a lot of benefits out of it per say but one thing we love about the GVHBA is the RenoMark stamp that comes along with it. When you join the GVH, you also have a option to be part of the RenoMark team. If you sign up and you’re wanting to be part of the RenoMark team, there is a set of stringent guidelines you have to abide by. One of our clients favourites would be the two year warranty as opposed to a semi standard one year warranty that other contractors offer.

Mark: So in a way, do you feel like this is an insurance, an insurance assurance for your clients that you guys have a really high standard as compared to other electrical contractors?

Adam: Absolutely. So when you apply to the GVH, you don’t just instantly become a member. They go through an interview process, they check your references, they check your online reviews and your credibility to make sure that they’re only letting in the top notch contractors join in. So if you’re a home owner or a client looking for a sub-trade or a contractor or a builder or a designer, they have designers and architects as well, I would recommend going to the GVH website and finding one that has that GVH and RenoMark stamp. I would say that’s definitely a good thing to look for and we’re proud to have it.

Mark: So if you’re looking for an electrical contractor in Vancouver, these are the guys to call Wicks Electric. You can check out their website wickselectric.ca or call them to discuss your next project, renovations, industrial projects, construction, renovations, you name it – they do a wide range of stuff and again they’re the highest rated electrical contractor, electricians in Vancouver. Call them at 604-765-8439. Thanks Adam

Adam: Awesome. Thanks Mark

Wicks Electric Saves The Day

Mark: Hi, it’s Mark from Top Local Lead Generation, we’re here with Adam Wicks of Wicks Electric in Vancouver; they’re Vancouver’s highest rated electrical contractor, Adam’s also the winner from BC Business Magazine of Top 30 Under 30 in BC. How are you doing Adam?

Adam: Very well Mark, good morning, how are you?

Mark: Good, so we’re going to talk about you guys riding to the rescue a little bit, a client called their electrical contractor who’d been paid, bailed after failing inspection, tell us the story.

Adam: That’s correct Mark, yeah this has happened a few times actually where an electrical contractor gets paid for a project, it goes to inspection, fails the inspection, and then kind of goes MIA so the client is having a tough time getting in touch with this specific contractor so they ended up doing a Google search, they found us on Yelp as you mentioned, we’re the number one contractor on there so they found us on Yelp, gave us a shout, we came in, we found a number of deficiencies, there’s been a lot of electrical code changes recently and I don’t think this specific contractor was up to date on those changes so we came through, did a walk through with the client and advised them of changes that needed to be made and even though it was a bit of a stressful situation for the client, a few days later we had them a new proposal set, a minimal amount of work but you know, a fair bit that the other electrical contractor missed but we provided a clear clean cut estimate, they approved it, they’re happy with the pricing, we returned, finished the project, we had a re-inspection and we passed and we’ve added another client testimonial to the list, so now things have been smoothed out.

Mark: So what do you think the difference was, how can someone protect themselves from this happening?

Adam: Yeah, that’s a good question, I think the important thing with electrical contractors is to look for accreditations such as GVH which is the Greater Vancouver Home Builders and RenoMark which are two associations we’re part of. With the RenoMark particularly, there’s a set of standards and guidelines that you have to sign off on if you want that RenoMark stamp. We’ve been a RenoMark contractor for about three years now so one of the many items on there is the two year warranty where a lot of contractors if any only offer a one year, there’s also a specific set of very high industry meeting standards you must abide by and so I would say looking for those type of accreditations in contractors is definitely, is definitely important.

Mark: So if you’re looking for an electrical contractor you can trust who will get the job done and at a fair price, with great service and a bunch of real hunky looking dudes, the guys to call are Wicks Electric 604-765-8439 or info@wickselectric.ca, check out their website wickselectric.ca Thanks Adam.

Adam: That’s correct Mark, have a good Friday, see you next week. Thanks a lot.

Wicks Electric Vancouver, BC

Mark: Hi, it’s Local Lead Generation, we’re here with Adam Wicks, Wicks Electric in Vancouver; they’re Vancouver’s highest rated electrical contractor and we’re going to talk a little bit about the history of the company and how perhaps even how Adam won the top ‘30 Under 30’ from BC Business magazine this year. How are you doing Adam?

Adam: Very well Mark, thank you.

Mark: So tell us a little bit about Wicks Electric, what kind of stuff do you guys specialize in?

Adam: For sure Mark, so one thing we take pride in as an electrical contractor as opposed to a lot of the competition is we tackle all sorts of electrical projects; we tackle residential, commercial, industrial. A lot of companies will just kind of pick one and they’ll just go with that. So we tackle all aspects, we tackle all sizes, we do service, small jobs, all light installs, all the way up to commercial projects. We’ve become, worked our way into Robinson Lighting as their, their go-to referral for all their clients so when you go into Robinson Lighting and purchase a fixture you’re going to get one of our business cards. We’re also Tesla’s Vancouver recommended installer so if you buy a Tesla you’re also going to get our contact. Recently we’ve complete a few LED retrofits so we’re a proud BC Hydro Power Smart contractor, we can offer some pretty decent rebates for large scale lighting projects. Some facilities have metal-halide and other non-energy-efficient lights and we can swap them out with more efficient LEDS and give an awesome deal. Another thing about our business, well I was going to go into . . . what’s that Mark?

Mark: Tell us the history of your company.

Adam: So I started this company about four years ago. I was operating out of the back of my Jeep Grand Cherokee, just doing service calls and handwriting invoices. We’ve grown steadily over the year doubling our staff and also revenues and gross, gross margins as well, so yeah we started out very small and just have through lots of hard work and lots of good honest work, we built a lot of relationships and four years later with 12 full time staff and full time electricians and two admin, one being my mom, another being my executive assistant who I hired recently so it’s, it’s been quite the journey, it’s been fantastic, yeah.

Mark: Is there any particular area that you guys like I know you do a lot of different broad ranges but is there any areas that you want to roll, move into more?

Adam: I think as we grow we’d also like to have larger projects and we do a lot of large projects right now, we just finished a 10,000 square foot TPI which is a Tenant Improvement Project in Gastown. We’re looking to move on to some low rise and invest in some high rise projects. We started small, myself, one guy, two guys, three guys, now were at 12 so we’ve got no plans in slowing down in the project size, we’re kind of go with that growth, so we’re looking to tackle you know, like I said high risers, there’s really no limit to the size of project, just kind of go along with our company growth. So I’ve recently bid a couple low rise, 16 unit apartments, those are the projects we’re really excited about, soon as we tackle those I’ve not doubt those are going to become the norm for us then as soon as that is the case we’re going to look to grow so that’s, that’s been our, that’s kind of been our mantra the whole time here is growth, so we want to continue to grow without ever sacrificing quality.

Mark: So there you go, if you’re looking for an electrical contractor who I might even say is obsessed with quality, producing amazing work with making sure your job site is not a mess, you are caring about talking to you and making sure you get what you want, these are the guys to call in Vancouver, Wicks Electric. You can call them at 604-765-8439 to discuss your upcoming project or check out their website wickselectric.ca. Thanks Adam.

Adam: That’s awesome, thanks a lot Mark.
