Bulldog Packaging LED Retrofit, Wicks Electric
Mark: Hi it’s Mark from Top Local, we’re here with Jesse Ramage subbing for Adam Wicks of Wicks Electric talking about a massive LED retrofit project. How’re you doing Jesse?
Jesse: Good, how are you Mark?
Mark: Good. So Bulldog Packaging wanted to swap out some lights, why did they want to do that?
Jesse: Energy savings mostly. They have around 500 lights in their factory so swapping them all to LED’s is a huge energy savings. So we went ahead and did that for them.
Mark: So let’s talk, you’ve got some pictures, tell us about, tell us the story, what was the project like? You worked on it.
Jesse: I do, yeah, it was a cool project. We’re in their factory, they make plastic bags and different types of packaging, it’s a factory that runs 24/7, so scheduling with the staff and everything in Bulldog was tough at times. We pulled some late shifts, mostly we were working night shifts there because that’s when it’s the quietest. Yeah, we changed out, as you can see, we changed out, these are all high bays, so we swapped out, they had mercury lights in their high bays, so we swapped them all out to LED’s. And these are really cool, actually if you walk down this hallway all the lights will be dim if there’s no one in there and as you walk down they get brighter as you get closer to them. They really save a lot of energy because they’re hardly even on if you’re not in there so, yeah, couple more photos here. We also did linear lights. These are basically swapping out normal fluorescent light that you would see everywhere nowadays. These are a kind of LED version of them, pretty cool. This is a tower here, safety was a huge concern here obviously, there’s machines running 24/7 and we’re working above them and around them the whole time, so you always have to be aware of what you’re doing, what you’re holding on to, you couldn’t drop any screws. If you dropped a screw on this tower it’s going to fall into their machine that’s making the bag and they have to shut down the whole machine until they found that one screw. So they were were pretty concerned about that. So we took every safety precaution we could to make sure obviously nothing bad was going to happen. All the lights were really high also, so we had lifts in there, scissor lifts and booms, a lot of lights were difficult to get to, so that was a challenge. But in the end we got it all done and the customer was extremely happy with the planning and how the job all turned out, obviously the energy savings are really good.
Jesse: These lights last a lot longer than a normal high bay light would last and getting up to them, they’re were 30 feet in the air, you don’t want staff having to change those all the time so these are going to last a lot longer, so safety there, no has to get up on a ladder to do it, they’re saving energy. They’re just an all around way better option.

Bar None Nightclub Electrical Project – Wicks Electric Vancouver
Mark: Hi, it’s Mark from Top Local we’re here with Jesse Ramage of Wicks Electric, he’s subbing in for Adam Wicks who’s off holidaying in Amsterdam getting into all kinds of trouble, how’re you doing Jesse?
Jesse: Good, how are you Mark?
Mark: Good, we’re going to talk about the Bar None Nightclub electrical project. What was going on with this project?
Jesse: Yeah, so Bar None is a nightclub here in the city, it was a pretty big renovation, we did quite a bit of lighting, like a big lighting upgrade. I’m going to show you some photos here. So you can see quite a few pendants, this is the entrance, we did lots of pendants and a backlit LED panel here. The layout for the whole place is pretty tedious to layout and quite a strict deadline so the guys worked long hours on this one. A couple guys were there until two in the morning day before opening trying to get this one done. Another photo here, we had over 300 of these little pendants hanging in here which is quite a tedious little job and all of the benches you can see under lit, LED benches. So it turned out really nice. The customer is quite happy. They called us back for a couple things here and there from a tripped breaker to one of the bulbs isn’t working anymore and so they were calling us back and they’re happy and everything’s good. It’s a packed place on the weekends so everyone gets to see the nice lighting and everything that we did and so, it’s a pretty cool job.
Mark: so if you’ve got a renovation project coming up for electrical, the guys to call in Vancouver are Wicks Electric. You can reach them at 604-765-8439 or you can check out their website wickselectric.ca. Thanks Jesse
Jesse: Thanks Mark.
Huge Warehouse Refit
We recently completed a massive electrical upgrade to this warehouse. It came with a huge set of challenges including night work so as not to disrupt the business, maneuvering large lifts through narrow corridors and the over 500 fixtures to swap out for energy saving LED’s. But Wicks Electric came through on time and on budget and the client was extremely pleased at how smoothly we made things work.
A New Fixture Makes a Huge Difference
This beautiful chandelier adds a whole new dimension to this dining room. Originally in place was an old fashioned dome light that looked boring and gave the room a outdated look. This sparking beauty is the highlight of the room and perfectly matches the elegantly classic decor. Often a lighting upgrade is all it takes to transform a room.
Tesla Powerwall Coming Soon
Many customers are eagerly awaiting delivery of the new Powerwalls to arrive in Vancouver. Some of our clients have pre-ordered the unit to enhance their existing electrical systems. Although the cost is substantial, the savings mount up over the years, allowing storage of solar power and the ability to time shift power consumption to less peak demand times. Plus having the needed power during our frequent winter outages to run essentials like refrigeration, lighting and charging of electronics is appealing as we strive to be more self sufficient. For all your electrical needs, new technologies and old, Wicks Electric is here to “light the way” !
Another Happy Customer!
This recent large renovation on an old Shaughnessy home brought huge smiles to both the contractor and the client. A 3+ month job, everything was upgraded to bring the aging electrical system up to code throughout the entire house. The all new fixtures, switches, dimmers, outlets, fans and low voltage wiring transformed the home to a showpiece the homeowners are thrilled with. Delivered on time, on budget and with the exceptional workmanship our clients have come to trust, Wicks Electric delivers every time!
